La Juanita is a place for transformation, where diverse personal and natural processes meet. A spot on earth where creativity dances with the joy of life, and change germinates. Our gratitude towards life manifests through the various projects we share with the people around this land. And we want to share them with you.

Guatavita, one hour north from Bogotá (public transport every 15 min), is a land full of energy and history. La Juanita, a traditional sabana farm, is located 100mt away from Tominé lake, and four hours (a magnificent walk, or half an hour by car) to the Laguna de Guatavita, a volcanic lake home of the El Dorado legend. There are numerous sports and activities to be practiced around the area, including climbing at the nearby Suesca rocks, sailing at the Tominé lake, hot springs at Tenza Valley, and recognizing non touristic muisca archaeological sites.
We offer basic rural accommodation, there is a double room with an attached bathroom, and a dorm with four beds to be shared with a bathroom. We offer two or three healthy meals a day, with some of the vegetables grown in our garden. There is a fireplace, huge green areas, and a very cozy atmosphere.

lajuanitaguatavita estrellas.jpgLa Juanita is a typical sabana farm, enclosed by a traditional tapia pisada (native earth wall), abundant in green, in peace, in love. The house was built fifty years ago, with thick walls guarding the heat which at nighs emanates from the big fireplace at the living room.

SALA COMEDOR

We offer accommodation in two rooms, one with a double bed and an attached bathroom, the other with four beds sharing the other house bathroom. There is hot water for the shower, a farmer kitchen, living room with hammocks immersed in nature, and a front porch for eating meals, having tea, making a fire, or dance. We have free wireless Internet for those who want to keep in touch with the outer world…

ANTICUARIO

We are currently planting edible gardens around the house, through permaculture principles we are building sustainable living, trying to forge an equilibrium with the land, reconfiguring the way enviroment is managed in the area, most of which has been dedicated to stockbreeding. Trying, by setting an example, to irradiate a different approach towards mother earth.

We greatly appreciate any hand you can give us to make this transformation possible!!!  La Juanita is not a hostal, or a hotel, it is a living organism, in which hosts and guests establish synergies towards a better earth.

Slider juana sacred

We inhabit the sacred territory of the ancient Mhuysqa people, the indigenous ancestors which still today guard this mountains. High, nested on the ridges, lagoons as jewels mark powerful confluence nodes, places for pagamento, for giving back spiritually or physically to the mother earth.

Juanita_02Water, the feminine energy gives birth to life when fecundated by the masculine sun.  A perpetual cycle which everyday emanates existence. The natural balance has to be kept respecting and nurturing this elements. The blinding El Dorado represented this sacred intercourse between masculine sun fecund gold, and feminine life emanating water.

Siecha

Siecha, shrine of the three lagoons. Representing, life, weaving, and thought. Amazing paramo with guarding three meter tall frailejones. Cold wind silence. Temple for meditation, purpose, offering, intention and action.

El Dorado was, and is,  the sacred lakes, not the sun golden semen. Was, and is, the maize , capable of merging shining rays to nurture our bodies. The sons and daughters of the maize, contemporary Mhuysqa people, guardians of Guatavita and all the territory.

We share this space which now stands at La Juanita!!! A place for connection which represents the prophecy of the meeting between the eagle and the condor. Available for ceremonies, a magical place which guards this mountains. A temple where we sit around the fire, and connect with the ancient power of this element, with the stories it inspires, with ourselves and with community. A place to sleep with your children, and awaken, after the night stories, to a new tomorrow in confluence and resonance with this land.

We take care of our seeds.

When the time has come, after blessing them,

And preparing, caressing, loving, the earth,

slider alimentacion 3

We plant.

And as guardians of this land,

with love,

we care, and sing, and meditate

and sprout,

to become ourselves.

slider alimentacion 4

With sun, wind, air, earth and water,

thought and consciousness,

we grow.

slider alimentacion 2

Harvest within, without, with you, with care,

Prepare for the alchemy to come,

at the great transformation temple,

the kitchen.

slider alimentacion 1

And we cook,

slowly,

thoughtfully, lovingly,

deliciously,

food for the soul.

slider alimentacion 6

to share, laugh, delight,

savor earth fruits,

be healthy and happy

with the force and tunned,

to take care of our seeds…
